The Best Round of Golf
By: John P. Napolitano, CFP®, CPA, PFS, MST
A great round of golf can be caused by many things. Good company, good weather, a manicured course and a good pace of play make being on the golf course one of the best possible uses of time to me. For some, scoring enters the criteria for a great round of golf. But for me, if I made scoring one of the criteria for a great day on the course I’d be disappointed at least half of the time.
Last weekend I had what may be the most enjoyable round of golf in my life. Sorry to all those who have played fun rounds with me in the past, but if you were at Trump National last weekend in Palos Verdes Los Angeles, this may have been your best day on the links too.
I was with my son Tom and his childhood friend Paul. We had 80 degree, cloudless low humidity weather and did not have another group of golfers anywhere near us on the course all day. I was truly amazed that we never, and I mean never, had a group in front of us or anywhere behind us. We truly had the perfect day on one of the best courses in the USA and able to play at our own pace without any interruptions.
Imagine a golf course where every swing is accompanied by an unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean. Of course, I took a lot of photos. But with hundreds of feet of elevation above sea level, the photos can’t do justice to the magnificent views and piece of land that this course endows.
I expect to have another such day this Friday at Scituate Country Club for the 3rd Annual US Wealth Jimmy Fund Golf Classic. Unlike last year where we played through the side blowing rain remnants of Hurricane Jose, the weather gods appear to be cooperating this year.
We won’t have Tom Nap or Paul in the field; that plane ride is a bit too long even for this major event. But we will have 56 dedicated contributing golfers taking a pro-active position to help find a cure for cancer. Everyone I know has been impacted by cancer in some way, and I truly thank you for your contribution and support for this worthy and fun event.
I am even more humbled by those who could not be with us on 9/21 who made material contributions and gifts to our prize chest. It may be too late to sign up for golf, but we will always welcome your contribution and smiling face to what is known as the best 19th hole on the south shore. First pour will be at 5pm.
