The Grand Finale Feeling
By: John P. Napolitano, CFP®, CPA, PFS, MST
We just celebrated the 21st Christmas at the home we built in 1996. This was the Grand Finale in the family homestead in that on January 13, 2017 a new owner will occupy the Gray House at the end of the street. All 21 celebrations were special and extremely enjoyable – but this one had a special feel.
Maybe it was having all four children in the home for one last time, or the fact that our west coast children stayed extra-long with us this time. Maybe it was the comfort of leisure time with family and friends or maybe it was the louder calling that turning age 60 shouts out to smell the roses.
Talk about re-charging – I was out of the office from 12/24 – 1/3, did very little real work and kind of let the vibe of the day drive what we were doing. I am fully charged up and ready for 2017. One skill that I plan to sharpen in 2017 is recognizing that any day, any interaction and any moment may be a Grand Finale in one way or another.
For some of you, a Grand Finale in certain areas of your life such as your job, day to day responsibilities or toxic relationships may be healthy. Give yourself permission to explore ways to have a Grand Finale to the things that are holding you back. This will free up time to turn to the things that you love to do, come natural to you, and that is uniquely you in an inspiring way.
This is where the Grand Finale feeling can be reproduced. If you are doing what you love, both for work and in your personal life, and respect the fact that you may not be able to do that tomorrow – you’re on track to feeling Grand about who you are and what you are doing. This way, when the finale comes, you can rest assured that it was a Grand Finale.
