Making the most of it

Just like everyone else these days in our COVID-19 world, we Fletchers are always attempting to put the best face on things by reinventing and improving our lives under quarantine. For example if we’ve been able to locate the flour, I’ve been baking a lot of sourdough bread these days. And because it tastes pretty darn good, especially when used as an ingredient in a grilled cheese sandwich, the old adage is starting to ring true that if you eat too much bread you begin to look like bread. Yup, much to my horror that was and is definitely taking place. Why is it that I feel I’m eating more than ever these days? With a gym no longer available as an option to work off those excess pounds, I had to start an indoor exercise regimen going- calisthenics, resistance bands, jumping jacks, push-ups, and plyometrics. My increasingly older body wasn’t exactly used to it, but at least I was heading in the right direction until.... until I pulled a muscle in my left calf last week. Doh! Now I’m back to square one, but at least I’ve got sourdough to keep me happy for the time being. Why can’t I just say no?

We’ve been sticking mostly with home cooking but occasionally we’ll take a break, switch things up and support the local restaurant community by using the take out route. And last weekend we really splurged. One of our favorite area restaurants is Fox & the Knife in Southie. Not only is she a renowned chef who serves award winning food, but we recently learned they also offer door to door delivery. As a bonus, we had a 1998 bottle of Caymus Cabernet that was given to us as a wedding gift many (many) years ago that had never been opened. We had been saving it for that perfect special occasion. And what could be more perfect and special then being quarantined at home with those you love? Well between the food, the drink and the company, the night was a smashing success. Now I need to figure out how to fix this calf muscle. Otherwise when I sit around the house I’ll be sitting around the house!
